Resonate: Drum & Bass @ Cobalt Studios, Newcastle

Sunday 26th May 2019

We welcome you to join us for our first ever Resonate showcase in Newcastle…

We make our Tyneside debut at the legendary Cobalt Studios, a unique venue that provides the perfect setting to create the intimate atmosphere that epitomises our movements.

Located deep in the heart of the Ouseburn, the area known as the City’s artistic district and one of the most vibrant creative communities in the North East, we couldn’t have found a more appropriate home.

With a deep, dynamic dance culture and incredible musical history, we welcome some of the most respected founding forces and leading lights to Resonate, to represent the underground sound of Drum & Bass.

Performing for you on the night:

Hidden Agenda

Hidden Agenda were two of the original, originals. “Our Urban Breakbeat representatives up north” as Goldie put it himself. Formed by Jason and Mark Goodings, the pair were widely recognised as one of the most talented, pioneering Drum & Bass outfits to emerge from the UK scene in the early 90’s.

Using masterful sample manipulation and clinical production skills, they seamlessly integrated the contrasting emotive influences of dark ambience, with futuristic funk, broken beats and sentimental soul - signifying the trademark Hidden Agenda sound.

Although Fabio has been credited with discovering Hidden Agenda, it was Goldie who first signed the talented brothers to his Metalheadz label, instigating a prolific recording saga and their timeless contribution to the genre, gracing the label’s back catalogue with numerous classics throughout it’s earliest years.

The pair’s undeniable genius being instantly recognised by the wider breakbeat community, releases were soon requested and recorded for Fabio’s Creative Source imprint and 4 Hero’s legendary Reinforced soon after.

Named after their Dispatches trilogy on Metalheadz, Hidden Agenda started their own label Dispatch Recordings as a platform to release their own solo material as NOS (Jason) and Max Fresh (Mark) as well as further studio albums, hence the Dispatch Records catalogue numbering beginning with #4.

Initially providing managerial duties, eventually the reigns were handing over to Ant TC1 who has since gone on to establish the label as one of the most respected and influential platforms in Drum & Bass, with Ant himself earning the prestigious post of Metalheadz label manager in the process.

Sadly, Mark is no longer with us, however the Hidden Agenda name lives on in spirit and sound with Jason recently returning to the front-line to deliver his integral blend of full favoured funk and rolling groove. With DJ sets, festival appearances and remix projects well under way, 2019 is going to be a special year and a an illustrious chapter in the Hidden Agenda legacy.

Tyrone

Representing the North East, Tyrone made his debut back in 2009, teaming up with Metalheadz legend Jubei to release ‘Tremors’ which gained regular airplay on BBC Radio 1.

As one third of Chroma, completed by Phobia and Sato, his back catalogue includes appearances on seminal Drum & Bass labels such as Ram Records, Renegade Hardware and Total Science’s C.I.A - to name a few.

As a resident DJ at the North East’s legendary ‘Turbulence’ parties, Tyrone has supported many of the worlds leading acts, establishing himself as a highly respected DJ. Making his Sun & Bass debut in 2018, he continues to demonstrate his proficiency is not just restricted to production.

Teaming up once again with his good friend Jubei to deliver ‘The Arcane’ EP, the leading track ‘Stabs’ was well received by both D&B fans and producers across the scene, reaching a top 10 spot on Beatport.

With forthcoming projects on some of the scenes leading labels, gaining support from the likes of Goldie, Chase & Status, D Bridge and Alix Perez, it is undoubtedly an exciting time for Tyrone and we are very proud to welcome as he makes his first Resonate appearance.
