YOUR MONTHLY CELEBRATION OF ALL THINGS WORDY.

Local and national artists vent their spleen for your enjoyment. Sample a mix of literary performance poets and vocal spitters from the street with a healthy dose of comedy washed down with some spoken word fronted music.

This month:

ARGH KiD
Manchester-raised poet - winning hearts and minds with his verbal energy, gaining celebrity fans such as Christopher Eccleston and Chris Evans. He is the Official Poet for the NSPCC, UEFA and Manchester United and his work has been broadcast to homes across the globe.
David is also a poet on a mission to make the artform accessible to the masses.
ARGH KiD is often found across UK media and is a regular on ITV, BBC BT Sport and beyond. His work has been reproduced in different languages and publications around the world from Denmark’s Politiken to The New York Times.

CAL HALBERT
Cal is a versatile entertainer- Impressionist, Comedian, Actor, Host and Voice Over Artist. Cal Halbert is also one half of 'The Mimic Men'. The UK's only impressionist double act! Performing on Britain's Got Talent in 2016 and gaining four yeses accompanied by a standing ovation by the judges, audience and Ant and Dec.

CHERRY & PEESH
Poetic musical punk rock n roll acoustic spoken word duo. Formed in August 2017 combining their own influences together to present a brand new truly unique act. Both successfully performing separately in their own right. Cherry B with her provocative political poetry which has taken her to performing on the comedy circuit, political rallies and supporting great punk bands and poets. Peesh also, a solo singer songwriter as well as fronting Punk pop rockers LoGOz and presenting his own show on Radio Northumberland. Now partners in rhyme they’ve been showcasing their talents to unsuspecting, yet very receptive audiences up and down the country.

ZICO MC
UK based Grime, Hip Hop, Jungle and Reggae emcee/artist, and one part of Trinity Lo Fi (Renegade Masters Records). Holding down live sets and residencies with some of Newcastle's premier underground bass culture nights, including Pirate Material, Lively Up and Dilate, ZICO has supported acts such as KANO, MUNGO'S HIFI, RODNEY P, and GENERAL LEVY..

STEVE URWIN
Diarist, editor, publisher, poet, his work has appeared in magazines such as Fire, Open Wide, Other Poetry, Sand, Smiths Knoll and Tears in the Fence and has been broadcast on BBC Radio. His debut full-length poetry collection “Tightrope Walker” was published by Redbeck Press in 2001 and just realeased his latest collection 'Laughter to Split Glass' to wide acclaim. Steve is a popular performer on the Northeast live circuit and is the 2008 Bare Knuckle Poetry Slam Champion and 2011 Middlesbrough Intro Festival Slam Champion. Steve works as a Creative Writing facilitator and runs Talking Pen - organising live literature events and publishing limited edition monographs and pamphlets.

We also have our monthly Poetry Slam. 4 performers, 3 minutes, 2 rounds, 1 winner. The winner gets a paid slot at the next Born Lippy event. PM Born lippy on FB for a slam slot.
