Mary Ocher + Nathalie Stern

  • Cobalt Studios 4 Boyd Street Newcastle upon Tyne, England, NE2 1AP United Kingdom (map)

Stern is equally undefinable and intriguing, looping delicate electronica and resonate vocals she performs this gig with Lindsay Duncanson and Marek Gabrysch from the Noizechoir who augment her sound by adding vocal effects ranging from industrial noises to melting glaciers

Mary has been persistently creating passionate, uncompromising work, raw, thought provoking, socially and creatively pushing against the current, dealing with subjects of authority, identity and conflict.

Her work is as enchanting as it is polarizing, ranging from traditional folk to raw 60s garage, ambient with ethereal vocals and abstract synths, to experimental pop with African and South American rhythms, when accompanied by her drummers.

Following last year's UK dates with "The West Against The People" Mary Ocher is back with its follow up 10"/tape "Faust Studio Sessions", having completed a tour of 20 countries and between two lengthy North American tours.

Born and raised in small town, Sweden, Nathalie Stern came to Newcastle twenty years ago following a UK tour with her band at the time (Candysuck, which were hugely influential on the emerging Swedish feminist movement in the mid-90s).

Once settled in Newcastle, Nathalie formed “Lake Me”, a minimalist guitar and drums duo who toured the DIY scene in Europe and North America. Following the split of the band ten years ago, Nathalie began exploring old folk songs, fusing a love of horror and folk lore with looped vocals and synth drone. She has supported luminaries like Silver Apples, Tune-Yards, Daniel (A.I.U) Higgs and was recently invited to perform an improv gig in Austin, Texas, with Thor Harris from Swans.

She’s in the process of recording the follow-up to her previous album “Firetales”.
