Spoken Word in all its manifestations

A monthly celebration of all things wordy. Local and national artists vent their spleen for your enjoyment. Sample a mix of literary performance poets and vocal spitters from the street with a healthy dose of comedy washed down with some spoken word fronted music. 

Mark Grist 
Award-winning poet, performer, educator and battle-rapper, famously beat M.C Blizzard in the YouTubed- teacher vs student 'Don't Flop' battle in 2012. He's won countless slams, titles and awards for his work, has received two Webby awards for his online poetry and has gained over 30 million views wordwide for his work to date. He's been commissioned by The BBC, The Royal Institute, Channel 4, Film4, Red Bull and Google. He recently fronted Redbull’s documentary series ‘Mark Grist battles the World,’ where he explored hip hop culture across The Philippines and battled Loonie, the most viewed rap battler in the world.

Keisha Thompson
Manchester based writer, performance artist and producer whose poems hit hard with a radical bite. She is currently touring award-winning solo show- 'Man on the Moon' and about to launch her debut collection: Lunar. She also wrote feminist solo show 'I Wish I had a Moustache' which toured throughout the UK. She was commissioned by: BBC radio to represent Manchester on National Poetry Day and Plan International’s global campaign for International Day of the Girl 2015. She has supported artists such as Kate Tempest, Hollie McNish, The Last Poets, Saul Williams, Amiri Baraka and has performed in Brave New Voices festivals 2008 & 2009.
